Art of Stepping™ (AOS) is a set of national, interactive programs for youth in K-12 based on a tested curriculum that teaches stepping through mathematical formulas. The curriculum, which is focuses on “fighting childhood obesity and learning mathematics,” is localized and adapted based on the needs of the community and the school being served. The AOS Program is the first of its kind in the nation and is overseen and administered by Remo Production, Inc., which is founded by Jessica “REMO” Saul. As stated during an interview on Fox News Latino in 2010, “Through our program, REMO brings together Latino fraternity and sorority members from all over the country, encouraging them to learn techniques, choreography, and discipline from one another for the purpose of progressing the art-form.”
The dance art form of stepping – one that was historically used as a form of communication – uses the body as an instrument to produce rhythms and sounds through hand claps, spoken word, and foot steps. It can be performed by an individual but is mostly known to be performed as a group, fostering the importance of teamwork. Widely-known for its African American origins, Remo has been able to broaden art form’s reach by teaching individuals of all ages, ethnicities, and origins.
Through our unique AOS step curriculum-based programs and supporting events, RP has helped to enhance the quality, availability, and sustainability of daily after-school programs in urban areas as well increased awareness of this dance art form.
